FAQ

Q: What is the difference between a live 4-day boot camp and the Self-Study Program?

A: From a pure content standpoint, the 4 day live boot camps and the self-study program are quite similar. Trainees will learn how to build integrated Financial Statement models, DCF models, LBO models, Comparable Company and Comparable Transaction models, as well as M&A Pro Forma (Accretion/Dilution Analysis) models. In addition, both the live training and self-study program train participants on performing sensitivity analysis, scenario analysis, data tables, creating customized macro-based shortcuts, error-proofing self-balancing models, incorporating dynamic circuit breaks in models, error-proofing models, and best practices for using Excel shortcuts and functions.

The primary difference is that in the live boot camp, trainees have instant access to, and can draw from, the vast expertise of our instructors, all of whom are experienced investment bankers with years of directly relevant on-the-job experience.

Q: I’ve enrolled and completed Wall Street Prep’s Self-Study Program; are there any benefits to attending a live boot camp?

A: While content is similar between self-study programs and live seminars, Wall Street Prep utilizes different case studies for these two training formats. Accordingly, many of our existing self-study clients choose to attend our boot camps as a way to gain additional Financial and Valuation Modeling experience in a live instructor-led setting.

Q: I’m traveling to the seminar from out of town; do you recommend a particular hotel?

A: We frequently work with a hotel near the seminar. Upon enrollment, trainees receive an email listing our hotel recommendations and, when applicable, a description of preferred rates.

Q: What is the flow of a typical day? Will we spend most of the time in Excel building models or listening to lecture?

A: Training begins at 9am and runs through to 5pm each day. Our instructors introduce sections and modeling tasks with conceptual introductions that tie the Accounting, Finance, and Excel together. Following these introductions, trainees go through modeling exercises on their laptops. Once a section is complete, we reconvene as a class, review the exercises, answer questions, and move on to the next modeling task. Our boot camps are very modeling intensive, and trainees spend significant portions of time building models on their own in their laptops.

Q: What background or prerequisites are required to take this program?

A: This seminar presumes knowledge of financial accounting (at least 1 semester or equivalent). Participants without this background must enroll in and complete the Accounting Refresher workbook prior to attending the seminar by adding it to the cart at checkout.

Navigational facility in Excel is also presumed. All trainees receive a complimentary 12-month access to the Excel Crash Course and are encouraged to allocate 3 hours prior to attending the boot camp in order to complete the online module.

Lastly, we recommend that trainees feel comfortable reading and navigating various financial reports (10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, etc.), which are used throughout our seminars. Participants without this background are encouraged to complete the Navigating Financial Reports online module prior to attending the seminar, by adding it to the cart at checkout.

The examination will consist of multiple-choice questions and will focus on topics covered throughout the seminar. The examination is self-paced (no time limit).
