Learn bond math using real bonds. Master coupons, yields, and duration calculations in both Excel and on Bloomberg.

Why You Should Take This Course

This course has everything you need to work with US government bonds. You'll learn how to use the Bloomberg terminal to work in the market, decipher complex jargon, and master the trading conventions you need to know to succeed on the trading floor.
  • Learn how to use Bloomberg to analyze real bonds There are thousands of US government bonds, so where do you start? We work through Bloomberg monitors and shortcuts to learn how to pull up a specific bond if you have one in mind or find the current on-the-run bond for a particular maturity.
  • Master the trading conventions Imagine your first day on the trading floor, you are given a quote of “103-06+” for a $100 million of a specific treasury. What does that mean, and how much do you need to pay and when for that specific bond? Decipher the jargon, memorize the conventions, and avoid making costly mistakes on day one.
  • Discover how coupons, yields, and durations are calculated — and why they matter Bond math is typically taught poorly, with too many formulas, and too abstractly. We do it differently. We work through actual bonds and coupons. We work through, in Excel, how to calculate the coupon payments, accrued interest, prices, yield and duration by hand. And we show you where to find all this on Bloomberg and how it is done on the job.

This course is part of the Fixed Income Markets Certification (FIMC©), a complete course that teaches you the skills you need to succeed as a Fixed Income Trader on either the Buy Side or the Sell Side.
