Improving Markets Training Relevance

Client

Global Investment Bank, Markets Division

Partnership Scope

New hire analyst & associate training across the firm’s global Markets divisions.

Population Size

150

Format

Blended (Synchronous & Asynchronous)

Background

  • A Global Investment Bank approached WSP seeking to improve training relevance across a broad group of new hires: Sales & Trading, DCM – Debt Origination and Quantitative Roles.
  • A one-size-fits-all approach was not desired as participants were recruited from different backgrounds and had different learning requirements; however, a combined training was desired to facilitate networking across all Markets participants.

Solution

Complete program redesign to a conference style approach:

  • Core Curriculum followed by Track specific Electives: Participants learned together in a core curriculum before being able to choose elective courses specific to their role.
  • Role-specific capstone project: WSP developed several capstone projects to replicate what the participant’s role once they are on the desk.
  • Online platform design: Wall Street Prep designed an online platform to facilitate the conference style approach, allowing participants to select courses, manage all virtual classroom links and files, and present results and scores to the L&D teams.

Impact

  • Participants acquired the skills they needed without sitting through courses that were not relevant to their role.
  • Participants developed a network across the broader Markets functions and understood how the different roles, products and functions interacted with each other.
